Master the Tastes of Tuscany: Your Authentic Organic Cooking Class at a Farm
The Tour
Escape to the sun-drenched, rolling hills that bridge Tuscany and Umbria and discover a truly authentic culinary experience: the Organic Cooking Class at a Farm located on the exquisite Il Fontanaro Estate in Paciano. This is not merely a lesson; it’s a deep, sensory immersion into the Italian philosophy of mangiare bene—eating well. Away from the bustle of the city, this private farmhouse offers a sanctuary where the rhythm of life is dictated by the seasons, and the ingredients travel only a few steps from the organic garden to your cutting board. It’s a journey back to the slow, genuine pace of Italian country living, guided by a local family that lives and breathes this beautiful, flavorful tradition.

This unique experience is centered around the concept of true farm-to-table cuisine. The moment you arrive, you’ll be embraced by the warmth of the hosting family, instantly feeling less like a tourist and more like a cherished guest. The adventure begins with an informal tour of the property. You’ll walk the grounds of this working estate, where the commitment to organic farming is evident in every detail. You’ll explore the vibrant organic kitchen garden, the very source of the seasonal vegetables and fragrant herbs you will be cooking with. This connection to the land is paramount, emphasizing the quality and traceability of every component of your meal. You’ll also learn about the estate’s renowned production of organic olive oil, witnessing the care and traditional methods that give it its distinctive, rich flavor. The tour concludes with a dedicated tasting of this “green gold” and the farm’s own artisanal wines, preparing your palate for the flavors to come.
Organic Cooking Class at a Farm: Mastering Pasta and Tiramisu
The heart of the experience is the intimate organic cooking class. Led by a warm, expert Italian mamma—whose culinary wisdom has been inherited over generations—you will unlock the secrets of classic regional dishes. This is a highly practical, hands-on session focusing on fundamental Italian techniques you can genuinely recreate at home. The star of the show is, naturally, fresh pasta.
You will learn the beautiful, physical art of making the sfoglia (pasta dough) from scratch, transforming simple, organic flour and eggs into a silky, pliable sheet. Under expert supervision, you will master the techniques for shaping various traditional pasta types, which often include thick pici, delicate ravioli, or perfect tagliatelle. The small group size (limited to just ten participants) guarantees personalized attention, ensuring you leave with confidence in your skills.
Beyond pasta, the class teaches you how to craft several accompanying sauces, using the freshest seasonal produce harvested moments before. You’ll learn to balance flavors, from a slow-simmered, traditional meat ragu to lighter, vibrant vegetarian options. The grand finale of your preparation is Tiramisu, arguably the world’s favorite Italian dessert. You’ll discover how to achieve its signature light, airy texture, layering perfectly brewed coffee, creamy organic mascarpone, and a generous dusting of cocoa. This focus on traditional recipes, executed with the best organic ingredients, is what elevates this from a simple class to a memorable cultural exchange.
The Farm-to-Table Feast: Lunch After Your Tuscan Organic Cooking Class at a farm
As the lesson concludes, the kitchen transforms into a vibrant dining room for a celebratory lunch—the ultimate culmination of your morning’s work. This is the moment to sit back, relax, and enjoy the true fruits of your labor: a complete, multi-course feast featuring all the dishes you prepared. The atmosphere is joyous and communal, enhanced by the picturesque surroundings of the farmhouse, with stunning views of the Tuscan landscape stretching out before you.
The meal is perfectly paired with the estate’s own selection of organic wines and spirits, including a bold, regional red and often a sampling of homemade Limoncello. It’s an authentic Italian gathering: slow food, great wine, and lively conversation. Guests frequently remark on the exceptional quality and flavor of the meal, a direct result of the high-quality organic, farm-fresh ingredients used in the preparation. As a final, generous touch, your hosts ensure you have leftovers to take home, extending the pleasure of your Tuscan organic cooking class into the evening.
In an era of fast food and hurried travel, this Organic Cooking Class at a Farm offers a meaningful pause. It is an opportunity to reconnect with food, to learn time-honored traditions, and to experience the true essence of Italian hospitality. You don’t just leave with recipes; you leave with cherished memories, a deeper appreciation for slow living, and the ability to bring the authentic taste of Tuscany back to your own home.

9 months agoFontanaro is not just an incedibly beautiful place but its a way of being and spending time and appreciating the beauty of nature that becomes a part of your soul- so much so that once you come here, you will always come back! A very good friend and I came here 10 years ago, and we were greeted by Alina Pinelli who not only offers the most amazing cooking classes but who I consider to be a concierge to the region! She knows everyone and everything that is going on in any village within an hours’ drive, and the best way to enjoy whatever that activity is. Whether its shopping, wine tasting, exploring history, sharing romantic moments with your partner or doing things your children will also love, she will find you what you are looking for or in some cases what you didnt know what you needed or were looking for. Since my first visit, I have returned with groups of friends, family, and most recently with a husband and toddler. Now I can say that Fontanaro is equally as amazing for children- there was nothing more heartwarming than watching my daughter chase lizards and butterflies, discover the textures of different flowers and plants, and pick fruit from the trees and run barefoot in the grass, eyes wide open with every new sensory discovery! And at the end of the day, after time spent swimming in the pool and reading in the hammock, we relax and watch sunset with a meal on the terrace in a comfortable villa with all the comforts you need to sleep well and wake up happy.

9 months agoAmazing and insightful to learn how to make pasta in different ways. Our sweet instructor Alina told the history about how she and her family bought the estate and stated to farm olives to produce olive oil. My family and I really enjoyed ourselves in your and the other guest's company. I will definitely recommend this experience. Kind regards Rosa, Anette and Jimmy Christensen - Denmark.

a year agoAbsolutely perfect experience! The cooking class at Fontanaro was the highlight of our trip. The hosts were amazing—so welcoming and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. From tasting their incredible homemade extra virgin olive oil to making fresh pasta and cooking a delicious meal, every moment was unforgettable. The location is beautiful, and the whole experience was great value for money. We loved it so much we left with 5L of their olive oil to bring home! Highly recommend and would definitely go again.

11 months agochance to join a cooking class at this beautiful location, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The setting was absolutely lovely, surrounded by nature and full of charm. We made several types of fresh pasta from scratch, including tagliatelle, ravioli, and lasagna, all guided step by step by a passionate and knowledgeable host. The most magical part? Picking fresh ingredients straight from the garden, it made the whole experience feel so authentic and special. It wasn’t just a cooking class; it was a taste of real Italian life, shared with kind people and lots of laughs. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to connect with local culture in the most delicious way possible!

10 months agoWe were a group of 9 family and friends who enjoyed our Cicerum house immensely. Everything was perfect, the house beautiful, our hosts incredibly helpful and we cannot praise Fontanaro enough. We highly recommend everything about Fontanaro and especially Cicerum where we stayed - but you have to experience the hospitality and amazing hosts yourself. Just do yourself and book this. We loved it so much. Thank you.
